Backyard Neighborhood
Unlike typical subdivisions, developer Jim Soules transformed two cul-de-sac lots into three properties with an innovative approach. By working with local ordinances, he established an easement for a shared lane connecting all three properties, each containing both a house and accessory dwelling unit. Each lot meets minimum zoning size requirements.
The front houses (1200-1600 SF) provide spacious living areas with garages and lush yards. The backyard cottages (425 SF) serve multiple purposes—functioning as offices, art studios, family housing, guest accommodations, or rentals for local workers. This arrangement offers greater lifestyle flexibility than single large homes would allow.
While the total square footage may equal that of two conventional homes with garages, the smaller cottages create a more approachable scale and character. Perhaps most importantly, the shared lane transforms these individual properties into a cohesive pocket neighborhood that naturally brings neighbors together.
