Consultation & Critique

Ross offers consultation and design critique services to architects, planners, developers, and community leaders working on projects aligned with his values—such as pocket neighborhoods, mixed-income and multi-generational communities, housing cooperatives, community land trusts, and small-scale infill developments.
With a practiced eye and decades of experience, he helps project teams refine their ideas, strengthen their site layouts, and ensure their designs support livability, neighborliness, and a strong sense of place. This support can be especially helpful at early concept stages, where small shifts in layout or massing can have a lasting impact.
Consultations are tailored to the project’s needs and may include:
-
-
-
Design review and feedback on site plans, building layouts, or design narratives
-
One-time sessions or ongoing involvement as a design advisor
-
Exploration of pattern language and unfolding processes to guide design evolution
-
Collaboration with public or nonprofit partners to strengthen project vision and community support
-
-
Consultations can be held remotely or in person, as one-time sessions or through ongoing collaboration over the course of a project. Whether serving as a sounding board, a design critic, or a thought partner, Ross adapts his role to meet the needs of each team and project.
